Of course the real President should have offices in the White House!

first, you’re talking about software “engineers” which means you aren’t talking about engineers in general.
and there’s a good chance none of them have ever had an engineering course in their life. they’re hackers who are good at making code.
the reason they probably seem reluctant to share is that what they’ve cobbled together with bubble gum and bailing wire is difficult to explain quickly and thoroughly AND they’d be taking time away from their assigned tasks to do so without having any change to their deadlines.
stop blaming them and start blaming their management for not giving them the time and permission they need to help you. go to the management and say you need so-and-so to be assigned 40 or 80 hours specifically to help you understand these widgets.
and in the future you need to push for clean up, documentation, lessons learned, and training to be part of every project estimate.
Well back when computers were being developed/ improved there was a pretty strong commitment throughout the Western nations to advancing and expanding education for everyone.
In that paradigm, people would become more educated and better at critical thinking at a steady pace, probably on par with the rate at which computer programs advanced in their capacity to mimic human behavior.
So, “can it fool more people into believing it’s a human” would’ve been a great test of whether the program was super advanced.
Instead we’ve had 50 years of attacks on public education by Republicans that has been tolerated - or at least not fought hard enough - by Democrats. So not particularly advanced programs can fool a great many people. That does make the Turing Test moot, I think.
praise whatever!
just like he beat Medicare?
totally exonerated!
well if they’re talking cyber only maybe i could see it, but the people working in our courts aren’t part of the problem Luigi lashed out against.
It looks like the “they’re both the same” disinformation from the hexbear side of the internet made a pretty strong impression. I’m not going to call it determinative by any means but it put some weight on the scale.
I think attempting to court Never Trump voters and Haley voters was penalty the biggest mistake. They could’ve spent that time and energy trying to win workers, getting their messaging to be more “real person” instead of focus grouped.
Like, the real solution was for Biden not to run for re-election at least, and at most to resign in February 2023 or right after signing the Infrastructure Law or chips.
you could use that $50k to pay for one night at the hospital that your insurance won’t cover!

Yeah I’m on Lemmy and Mastodon. I also still watch YouTube. They haven’t passed whatever my threshold is for suckitude, yet. I’m sure it’s coming.
FWIW there’s a way to bridge Bluesky accounts to Mastodon
This is an inaccurate claim by Sanders. Biden was the first President to walk a picket line with striking workers.
With union negotiations, he was pretty balanced. He did come down on the railroad strikes some after both sides got stuck, but they did get improvements beyond what management wanted to give. With the ports, though, he stuck with the workers and forced management to negotiate by refusing to override the strike.
Could the Democrats do more? Sure. But they’re still recovering from the fever that took the party over with Clinton in '92. There are a lot of people who believe that win was a meaningful approval of the pro corporate but not racist Democratic Party platform, when in reality Clinton only won thanks to Perot.
I don’t know that there was any magic messaging that Harris could’ve deployed this time around. I’m not sure there was any likely alternative even from a short post-Biden primary that could’ve done better than her.
Trump has everyone thinking he has some magic way to boost salaries and lower prices. And he railed against the elites more stridently and apparently people believed him.
On the other hand Google saw a lot of traffic with people asking if Biden dropped out so who knows what could have been done to avoid Trump 2.
my point is that “if there’s an obstruction, stop” means these cars are going to be stopping and requiring human intervention all the time. That’s semi autonomous at best.
I don’t know if you’ve encountered intransigent geese in your driving adventures, but the only way to deal with them is to slowly drive through the flock until they move out of your way.
fully autonomous cars are never going to happen without major changes to our roads. we’d be better off investing in more busses and trains.
I realized self-driving on roads is impossible for so-called when someone pointed out what human drivers do when there’s like a flock of geese camped out in the middle of the road.
We know that we should slowly move forward until they get out of the way, including bonking then with the car (gently). Do we want cars deciding that some obstruction in the road is “ok” to hit? I don’t. So what’s the solution? Something other than pure autonomous self driving.
We can probably have some very high level driver assist. Maybe.
The question was “what term annoys you” not “what term annoys you that you’re sure Lemmy will approve of” (or that a malignant narcissist billionaire isn’t also annoyed by).
I’m open to an explanation of a commonplace situation where it’s necessary to have a separate word for “is of the gender that matches that assigned at birth.”
To me it’s like if I say I enjoyed the sunrise" and someone says, “you mean the Earth sunrise?”
I mean yeah, sunrises happen all over the solar system, there are different kinds of sunrises, probably all beautiful in their own ways, but in general the default “sunrise” a human is likely to be talking about is the one we experience on Earth.
“cis” I feel like it’s an extra term for “straight”. The “default” for lack of a better term (and one that isn’t othering) is near the not trans & not gay part of the gender / sexuality spectra. To me everyone in that zone is “straight” (boring/default/whatever).
“begs the question” because people exclusively use it wrong. Just say “leads to the question” or “poses the question.”
And I’m still really salty about everyone giving up on the term “literally” to allow it to mean its exact opposite.
Well I think they’re talking about having windows AND cows in the same building, so we should really talk about the dangers of cow suicide, especially to passers by on the street below.
my wife and I tried this for a couple weeks and it works but I’d recommend putting the steak at lunchtime or breakfast if you’re at all active before dinner.
I nearly passed out when I tried to exercise before dinner steak. Next time I had the steak for lunch and was A OK.
