About 500 Texans, mostly young unvaccinated children, have contracted the disease. The U.S. health secretary is expected to come to Texas.

This isn’t even the qualifying incident; he helped promote this antivax shit in American Samoa and at least 79 people died there. Most of those were children.

The fact that the Senate confirmed this freak is insane. The fact that Mitch McConnell was the lone Republican against reaffirms the stereotype that Republicans only care about something when it affects them - Mitch is a polio survivor and therefore pro vaccinations…

Even Traitor Turtle is right by accident some times, what a wonderous universe.

Yes, even though it’s a stereotype, it’s about as good a diagnostic criterion as we have. Lack of empathy (i.e., care about those unlike them) seems to be the defining feature for republicans. They can sympathize (i.e., care about those like them), but only after they experience something. And not always then.

The Republican party being willfully indifferent to death and human suffering? Noooo, I mean just because they gave us the Iraq war, Sandy Hook, a supreme court decision on abortion that led to a rising maternal mortality rate, intense and unqualified support for the death penalty when we know we’ve imprisoned innocent people, endless attacks on workplace safety consumer safety and environmental protection regulations, etc etc etc…

An 8-year-old girl with measles died Thursday morning, the second measles-related death in an ongoing outbreak that has infected nearly 500 Texans since January.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a vaccine skeptic, is expected to visit Texas Sunday, NBC News reported.

The child was not vaccinated and had no known underlying health conditions, said a spokesperson for University Medical Center in Lubbock, where the child had been hospitalized. “This unfortunate event underscores the importance of vaccination,” the statement read. “We encourage all individuals to stay current with their vaccinations to help protect themselves and the broader community.”

This disease was beaten. This is child abuse and should maybe even be considered manslaughter given the willful negligence.

Another really sad aspect of this, if that 8 year old has siblings they might not be any better off without their parents because Texas (and most states) systems of foster/group homes is shit.

Children need to vote harder if they want lawmakers to take their special interests like not dying seriously.
