You’re right, but (I think) that’s a setting on the home instance for the community. Other instances can allow/show the downvotes, but the NSFW community will be blissfully unaware.
That could also be the case I’m not going to purport myself to be any sort of Lemmy expert. I just feel like it would make sense that if a community is morally opposed to the idea of downvotes they would try anything they could or would put any sort of thing in place that would allow them to safeguard against that.

I just block the communities I find gross or anti-sexy.
Lemmynsfw disables federating downvotes. You can only see downvotes made by users of your own instance.
Maybe a federation issue on one of the instances? Both instances are shown to be linked from their instances tab.
Check if your instance defederated from them.
Must be an issue with your instance. Things seem fine on mine.
