There’s something extremely funny about the president of the US looking at what’s going on China and saying out loud, “Their economy is a ticking time bomb.” This is almost an onion news story.

            You’re such a redditor

It’s also kinda hard to have 99% of people dislike China if 18% of the global population lives there and is very satisfied with their government, not even counting anyone in Russia, other parts of Asia and the Pacific, Central and South America, or Africa.

You’re really showing whose opinions you actually care about. A bunch of propagandized to the brim, comfortable Americans, Canadians, and Europeans

That’s ridiculous since the Chinese like China and we’re 18% of all humans.

Here’s an article about Americans getting salty that views on China in South America are largely positive as opposed to sub 50% approval rating in English speaking countries.

Here’s Voice of America saying the same thing about Africa and how Africans see China.

Your opinions on China is not only in the minority, it’s a waning minority. Those are western sources I used in case you wanted to cry propaganda.

Hey there it is!! “Brutal regime” describes things like the ongoing cultural genocide of indigenous peoples, which itself is a continuation of the brutal mass murder and subjugation of those peoples. A BR (brutal regime) does things like enforce debt against Haiti for having the audacity to free itself from slavery and using the debt to ensure the white financiers who bought those slaves don’t lose any money while simultaneously refusing to engage in any form of reparations. A BR separates children from their parents for an an unbroken multi-century program of violent oppression against non-whites. If you rank every country in the world by the most bombs dropped on it, there’s only one BR that is responsible for the top 3 most bombed countries in the history of the world.

But do go on about how those ebil Chinese are so compliant in approving their government for 15 years at a rate of 95% (just ask Harvard) despite that government being a “brutal regime”. Must be something in their culture, right?

        Dude, take a break!

I mean I completely disagree with you, but this thread can’t be healthy for you. What purpose is it serving to get enraged here?

I’d say take a breather and if you dare: ask yourself how reliable your impression of China really is, maybe research some older claims that have been proven to be misrepresented or false, like this for example. Not saying you have to become a fan, but there seems to be a propaganda effort to prepare the public for a economic/military war with China. So more people need to be sceptical.

You seem to haven’t accepted it yet, but the capitalist class, through the means of communication they control, construct most impressions you have of foreign countries (without them being able to interject) and facts are negligable as they have been in the news-medias support of every US war effort in history as well.

I got a little carried away, but I meant it in good faith, you decided to wear a badge of socialism after all.

What you do is obviously up to you!

China’s economy is stacked like a house of cards and could come crumbling down due to some unforeseen global financial shock, but then again that sounds like most modern economies. I think people just pick on China because, instead of having a group of billionaires stack up the cards, the government does it themselves.

Even if that shock happens, China will still be in a better situation. Like, they actually manufacture stuff there, and the government builds infrastructure aggressively. That’s two massive benefits to economic security and health.

The Chinese government stacks the cards though it actually has the capability to use some toothpicks to hold them in place, and will immediately rebuild it things start to fall apart.

To contrast, the US will flounder and pull their one “low interest rates” lever while having a political blowout over some sort of stimulus funding package that probably won’t pass.

Buddy, you realize you’re quoting a source from 2011? Over the past decade GDP/capita in China has more than doubled and the number of people living below the poverty line has dropped from 100 million to less than 1 million.

So… You have no counterargument, no source for your 2015 claim, and nothing of value to contribute? Carry on.

You’re one of the biggest failures of democracy: democracy assumes people discuss in good faith. Meanwhile, you use decades-old data to provide misinformation while pretending to be informed and follow it up with uncited claims… Because, reasons?

I love not accounting for population size! However, let’s see how the countries can be compared when we do:

A lot of homeless people do end up in prison both for all of the anti-homeless laws in various cities. For some folks it may end up being a better option than just outright dying in the streets from lack of food, medicine (love how the richest nation can’t put our tax money into anything that actually helps all of us), and/or from the elements. So while your point of bringing up prison population is a valid one. It is still (in part) related to homeless population numbers, just not totally useful by itself.

That being said, I do think that China is actually putting much more effort into dealing with the problem. As bringing people out of poverty/homelessness is crucial to keeping support of the masses. When enough people are just tossed out and can’t get help. It will lead to dramatic and very widespread revolts and even civil wars. That is true for any nation, no matter what system is in place. Socialist nations were birthed by such widespread poverty for the many while the few hoarded the wealth and resources. It is kind of one of the main points Marx and other anti-capitalist theorists base their shit on.

Americans have been predicting the collapse of China for 30+ years. It’s just wishful thinking.

Except official data doesn’t look good? They haven’t gaslit shit, they’ve been reporting slowing growth, decreasing exports, and deflation.

WSJ literally wrote an article “this is what I think China will do and that’s why China bad”

What the fuck kind of journalism is that?

he’s probably referring to this https://thenextrecession.wordpress.com/2023/08/02/china-consumption-or-investment/

tldr chinas quarterly growth has slowed and liberal economists are claiming china’s miracle is over. private sector investment has shrank 0.2% for the first time since data collection in 2005 but investment by state firms has expanded 8.1% in the same period. there’s also a current global manufacturing recession. doesnt mean “its over” or whatever tf they’re saying but interesting to note.

I mean there will be a point when the Chinese middle class stops growing and the government will need to midwife a new economic model. A Communist Party is probably the only political organization currently in the world that can come up with an answer that isn’t slashing the social safety net and giving big handouts to corporations to keep profits up, though.

im not an expert in political economy, but if you read the article he goes into a lot of specific reasons why china is still in a great position in regards to the future, although it will take responsible leadership that pushes back against mainstream neoclassical economics.

Neoliberalism has been a failure for the actual population. It’s decoupled economic growth from improved quality of life. Meanwhile, social democracies in Europe are showing that other models are practical and viable.
