But it does it both easier and better than pen/paper because it does it automatically without them needing to even think about it. And it’s already available electronically so they can graph it and run statistics on their usage and trips…you know, actually use the data for something purposeful.
With pen/paper they just have a sheet they can’t do anything with. They now have to manually enter all this data to use it for anything, which is a lot on unnecessary manual effort.
You can do basically everything you can do from teslas own app, but automated and even a little more. For example I use it to automatically control charging power to match the surplus of my solar panels, that keeps my grid-use for my car to 0kWh for roughly 5 months of the year. And I can set the charging power lower than I can in the Tesla app (app is 5A minimum, API goes to 0A), which is convenient for the solar charging.
And of course you can pull battery data, odometer etc. with it as well.
None of my banking apps or my government ID 2FA app work in GOS, not even with sandboxed google play services. I had to go back to stock android since these are essential to my everyday life. Huge bummer since I replaced my old broken phone specifically with a pixel for GOS.

It’s also the most unlikely explanation of all, that phones brought in communicated with the ones in custody to reboot them. Even if it was a security feature to reboot phones under certain conditions, which is very likely TBH graphene OS does this, the best implementation isn’t going to be relying on other phones randomly passing near by, it’s going to be self-managed by the phone that reboots.
IMO battery life is absolutely excellent, I brought it with me on a 2 week holiday last year, read for 30-90min almost every night and didn’t need to charge it during the trip or worry about battery life.
I’m using a Boox Leaf 2 myself, it’s basically just an android tablet with an eink screen. I can load pretty much any eBook format, and you can put regular android apps from play store (or any other app store) on it as well if you want. And they have a microSD card slot available from the outside to expand storage.
All the hacks and mods people do to their kobo are not needed, because it’s supported by default on my Leaf 2.

I mean, it’s been 15+ years since smartphones hit the market as a regular device, so those people where only in their mid/late 60’s when that transition happened. And there are solutions in place for both digital access without smartphone and physical only access. I’m not sure I see how that is hostile to elderly or people that can’t/won’t use a smartphone or insist on physical access. Obviously physical access is going to be a hassle, that’s why it’s not the default anymore.
For banking and other official business, they have to go physically. If their bank has no physical department near them well then it sucks to be them. For digital mail you can apply for exemption and you will get physical letters.
You can order a digital code generator so you don’t need the app if you still want 2FA for digital handling. But I don’t want to have to carry that with me it would be a significant inconvenience for me.
It’s a must for me. My phone is my primary day-to-day computer, so I need to be able to so everything from that. Unfortunately that is also why I’m not using graphene OS, because our government 2FA system doesn’t work in graphene OS (even with play services installed) so it’s impossible to do anything. I can’t check anything WRT banking, schools, taxes, daycare, doctors appointments, hospital record or change anything that requires the involvement of city hall, including checking digital mail from the municipality or government. It’s basically not possible to function in our society without it.
If you want all the metrics that it logs automatically, you’re going to be spending 20min every time you drive anywhere logging everything manually. And then you’re still not getting the continuous logging during drives. Plus you still need to do all the data processing yourself on top of that.
I get why some people pay for these things.
