For me the thing that actually matters is Respondus not working on Linux. There’s no solution other than have a dedicated Windows laptop if I want to take tests for my college. Everything else has a workaround.

You should probably start by listing the programs you need. Everything else such as gaming/customization is distro specific.

Surely they’ll make the file explorer faster now that they’re “upgrading” it.
“I love your confidence”

I believed looks didn’t matter, only people’s character.

PocketTube. Makes YouTube much nicer and organized.

Make sure to use that horse dewormer.

graphene is good your honor
I mean, the installer is Calamares, so it’s easy af. To install packages, just look it up here and add that to the config file. Steam in particular needs you to add 4 lines of code shown here but other than that, it’s not hard. You can certainly make it a pain in the ass if you want to go ultra customization mode, but it’s actually really easy to setup and maintain.
I guarantee you the people who tell you to stay away are either people who NEED to beautify their setup or people who haven’t tried NixOS and just assume it’s as hard as Gentoo.
NixOS. You can tinker a lot if you want but you can also just install nix packages by typing in the default config file and call it a day.
Nobara. I’ve always had issues with Mint and any other Debian/Ubuntu based distro but that was during my NVIDIA days so it might be because of that.
Office 365 in my face 24/7.
No candy or rice. Eat green veggies.

I went from being annoyed with my 3080 to being extremely happy with my 7900xt. The driver issues no longer became an issue because AMD. One important detail is this was a new build which meant I also went from a 3700X to a 9800x3D.
Personally it’s worth it ESPECIALLY since gpu prices have come down.
Yeah but people are still capable of using Arch and imo NixOS is much easier than Arch. Once you figure out how to do something on NixOS you don’t have to go through all the troubleshooting/learning over and over. With Arch it’s an active investment of your time all the time.
So if people are capable of using Arch, then they can handle NixOS. NixOS is hard but it’s not world ending hard.
IT’S A HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE FOR NEW USERS TRYING TO RUN A DESKTOP. Steer clear.
Same can be said for Arch but people still install it as their first distro.
Linux Mint, Nobara, Bazzite. Just try them. Worried? Then try them in a virtual machine.
I’ve been using Tresorit on Linux for 5 years. I even got it to work on NixOS somehow ;o
Sounds like a skill issue. I guess you don’t know how to prompt correctly. 🤷
