Devil’s advocate-- the Industrial Revolution has led to heaps of the ‘prosperity’ we moderns have enjoyed, while effectively destroying our future via various forms of pollution, directly because too few heeded caution and considered the importance of sustainability.
It became all about money at almost every level, and unchecked capitalism is ultimately a tyrant, as we’re now discovering via late-stage capitalism. While the rich get richer and fascism rises around the world, of course.

31·2 days agoYou’re painting with such an ocean-size brush, that you might as well be talking about anything at all. It comes down to details, facts and reality, and I’m not hearing anything persuasive from you.
I’ve been on the FV 2.5yrs now, and only once ran in to a ban-happy mod, here. And I’ve rarely heard other people complain about it, either.

50·6 days agoDuring filming of the original “The Pink Panther” (1963) movie, actor Robert Wagner was blinded.
While shooting a bubble-bath gag scene involving an industrial-strength foaming agent, the chemicals burned the skin of both Wagner and his co-star Capucine. Wagner was reportedly temporarily blinded for several weeks after being submerged in the foam, with corneal irritation so severe that he could not see clearly for a period of time.

Really, there’s a tragic litany of incidents like this going all the way back to the Nickelodeon era. Production folks sometimes screw up, leading to actors and stuntpeople getting hurt, or even killed, as with Brandon Lee in “The Crow,” or with The Twilight Zone movie, in which three actors were beheaded / fatally injured by a helicopter crash.

2·7 days agoJust in case it’s relevant or useful, there are some databases and repositories of files that came out well ahead of the hot mess that the DOJ has been releasing. Terribly sorry about one of the links going to the Evil Empire, but I make a rare exception here:

Heresy!
That said, I understand it’s not too popular across much of Asia, even beyond any lactose issues.

11·15 days agoMost fruits and veggies IME tend to dry out more than rot, unless perhaps you live in a very humid area. My experience with forgotten avocados is that they’ll shrink and get wrinkled, while becoming inedible inside, but won’t be problematic.
Tomatoes can definitely get gross and leaky if forgotten. Potatoes when rotting can actually produce poisonous gas, so watch out for that. Kind of a Solanaceae (Nightshade) theme there, I guess.

5·4 months agoHaven’t used it for a while, but Reveddit used to be able to give good info on what stuff of yours might have been shadow-removed, and why.
Given the local weather, there’s typically barely anything of that sort around here.
The real problem is the 4th of July, in which there are chronic explosions going on almost a full month sandwiching that date. Just terrible as a light sleeper with oversensitive hearing.
