Great case study of how removing a dictator through autocratic power doesn’t make things better. Don’t call for a military coup, it doesn’t end well.

Let’s go Sacramento! 🌉🌳🍴
Love to see my neighbors giving the fascists the boot.
Because the economic conditions of the modern world allow for tyranny and the people haven’t figured out that we need to unite and overthrow the tyrants to build a better society.
It’s still risky. A woman got detained recently because she was denied entry into Canada and forced to return to the US where they arrested her.
Would people stop actions against Tesla in that case though? I am hoping we can destroy his wealth, so while him being CEO is a relevant factor, it’s far from the only one.
But that never happened. We never decided that. No one even asked me. Again, I never opted in and there’s no realistic way to opt out. I’m far more afraid of the state than I am from my neighbors, and if I had a real choice, I would opt out immediately.
I think there can sometimes be tension between these two ideals, as with any two disparate goals but I think they are often more aligned than people think. Freedom from terror and violence is an important freedom as well.
Social contract theory is statist propaganda. Even before I knew anything about politics or political theory I was so confused by this idea.
It’s just there to create an illusion of consent for state oppression. Even though there’s no realistic way to opt out, and we never even decided to opt in in the first place.
What kind of crazy contract is that?
People seem upset about this. I’m over here wondering wtf is an echo?
Maybe there is a way they could have been done better, I don’t know, but I always feel the need to push back on this idea because in reality they’ve been an absolute calamity that I’ve been suffering from my whole life as one of the many people forced to live near one.
Except highways make everyone worse off not better. That one doesn’t fit.
This is just not in any way accurate. Free speech means the government cannot penalize anyone for speech with specific narrow exceptions. Deporting them for such speech is obviously penalizing them. Laws or no, this is unconstitutional.
No I’m not.
The difference is I don’t attribute to malice what can be explained by ignorance.
Read the survey again. We are talking about the full population, not only young people.
I just want people to understand that just because many people on Lemmy love Luigi doesn’t mean there’s some secret silent majority in real life that does too. Most people don’t want to see people shot down in the streets, regardless of who they are. It makes them feel like they or their family might be next.
I think they framed the story that way because to boomers the level of support among younger people is the most shocking thing about this poll. To those of us in that demographic it seems a strange way to do it because that’s just how it is for us, so it’s not that noteworthy.
Yeah part of me wants to think I am immune but I think that’s my cognitive bias at work. But I do think I’m more skeptical than the average person, even if I’m not completely immune. People who think about and recognize these issues might have an extra layer of defense, if imperfect.
Yeah but few people seem to have this ability. I’m not sure it’s human nature. People tend to uncritically accept the opinions and statements of their peers as fact.
Maybe you are exceptional and this doesn’t apply but I tend to think it applies to everyone to some extent.
Ah yes. The vibes. Always reliable. Except it’s actually 61% negative. Should I accuse you of lying now?
It’s actually 19%, including both levels of support. Reading is hard for people I guess.
And for the record, 61% held a negative view. So OP is completely correct here.
My understanding is that this type of infraction would have normally merited an administrative response, but no criminal charges. Since she wasn’t employed by the government anymore at that time, there wasn’t really much that was warranted.
I mean, I’d be fine if they wanted to throw the book at her. I support this with any powerful members of society. But I don’t think this case was particularly unusual.
