Oh god, im so glad mine was just soft serve!

Working at Dairy Queen when I was a teen. I was cleaning the soft serve machine and forgot to depressurize and drain the machine before i opened the front up. As soon as I loosened the last bolt it exploded gallons of chocolate and vanilla soft serve ice cream. In an instant, the entire mall food court was sprayed in a fine mist of soft serve. Once I wiped the ice cream from my eyes and realized what just happened, I looked around and there was a perfect outline of my silhouette on the wall behind me.

I have like 3 full wardrobes full of different sizes of clothes. I got my skinny normal and fat clothes so all id have to do is change weight to get access to new(ish) clothes to wear. That being said, probably not long.

Im deliberately being vague to avoid being linked irl to this story, but to assuage a random strangers’ criticism of this situation: He applied for multiple of the same programs. He took advantage of the good will of charities and social services by using their services while stealing from them. He got kicked out of many many places during that year for forging identities and stealing from other residents. He had things like food stamps but would just sell them for fractions of their worth for cash. So, Yes he was a mooch. He was not in good faith trying to use these services to better his situation. He was using them to try and get his next fix.

I get what your trying to say but maybe try rephrasing it so its not so accusatory towards a person you have no fucking clue about.

I tried for three years to help a family member get clean. It cost me most of my savings, my relationship with my fiancee, my house as most of my money went towards treatment and whatever was left, ended up stolen by him. Also most of my family because they all blame me for what happened. And what happened is after 3 years of futile attempts to help, I finally kicked him out and instead of hitting rock bottom and helping himself, he just gave up. He became homeless, mooched off the system for a year and then died.

There’s not a lot you can do for people once they are fully in addiction. They have to want to get better for themselves. I’m sorry. I know its a shit situation and it’s gut wrenching to watch and not really be able to do anything. My best advise from someone whose been there- Make it clear your available to them if they want the help, but they have to want it. Don’t put yourself out there for someone who isn’t ready to get clean because they will take advantage of you. If they really do try and help themselves, then just be there for them. Don’t give financial support, its to tempting for an addict. Support them morally and emotionally like if they need a ride, or someone to sit in a NA meeting with them, then do that.

Remember, addiction is a disease. It changes people against their will. I don’t say this to make you loose hope for your friend, but rather to help you keep in mind that the person lying, stealing and manipulating you, isn’t your friend. They are an addict. I really hope your friend comes back soon.

For years, every update YouTube has had has made the platform worse. I think its valid to doubt this will improve anything. That being said, I agree with you. Lemmy as a whole needs to calm down a bit and stop being so damn negative about everything.

It was just a small e-commerce store. Online sales and shipping. The boss wanted me to run emails i would send to vendors through gpt and any responses for customer complaints were put through GPT. We also had a chat function on our site for asking questions and what not and the boss wanted us to copy the customers’ chat into gpt, get a response, rewrite if necessary, and then paste GPT’s response into our chat. It was so ass backwards I just refused to do it. Not to mention it made the response times super high, so customers were just leaving rather than wait (which of course was always the employees fault).

It cost me my job (partially). My old boss swallowed the AI pill hard and wanted everything we did to go through GPT. It was ridiculous and made it so things that would normally take me 30 seconds now took 5-10 minutes of “prompt engineering”. I went along with it for a while but after a few weeks I gave up and stopped using it. When boss asked why I told her it was a waste of time and disingenuous to our customers to have GPT sanitize everything. I continued to refuse to use it (it was optional) and my work never suffered. In fact some of our customers specifically started going through me because they couldn’t stand dealing with the obvious AI slop my manager was shoveling down their throat. This pissed off my manager hard core but she couldn’t really say anything without admitting she may be wrong about GPT, so she just ostracized me and then fired me a few months later for “attitude problems”.

A dude I know only online has a kid named Apple. After reading some of the other names here, Apple isn’t the worse i suppose.

Your comment reminded me of my own story where i was at the bar with my dad. I wasnt drinking he just stopped at the bar after picking me up from somewhere. I was maybe 14 or so and had to drive him home. Not sure what would happen if i got pulled over at the time but I knew how to drive that young so i wasnt a complete danger.

Yeah, I got all those plus a bunch of furry stuff and all kinds of kink accounts. Blueskys block and filters are really good though and it took me all of 30 mins of marking posts as “show me less of this” and blocking obvious bots. Haven’t had an issue since, really.

Its been 5 hours, I think they are lost to the annals of the anals.
