Same with X/Twitter. I hate when people put information in those now because you can’t read more than one at a time in some reply to self thread on there without downloading the app. Especially when it’s important news or on the ground reporting. Screw that. All those reporters need to use mastadon.

Haha ya, I totally get that. For me: I’ve been doing more little projects on my phone (designing games on my off time, researching work problems, etc), started carrying around a journal to write in on my bag, I downloaded the Shonen Jump app and started reading manga for anime I’ve wanted to watch but haven’t gotten around to, and I listen to podcasts not just when I’m driving. Hope some of those suggestions help or kickstart your own idea.
I also want to start carrying a book around with me like I did when I was a kid, because I have such a big list to get through and I have lots of pdfs for rpg books I’ve downloaded but haven’t read. I’ve tried to read them on my phone, and I succeeded with one book but the screen is so small lol. Maybe I need to look for a good e-reader that reads pdfs without straining my eyes, like I heard e-ink readers or something like that do, but apparently not with pdfs, I guess?
Unless you don’t vote political opinions do often matter, and they affect people’s lives in real physical ways, especially for oppressed minorities, like LGBTQ people or currently Palestinians, which is why you’ll probably see people speak up for groups like them the most. I’ve never seen anybody be mad at someone for driving an EV car on Lemmy, though. That feels kind of like a straw man.
I like to switch between different sorts, because like you I haven’t found the perfect one yet. I do think you should try scaled every now and then, though, just to help boost the smaller communities. It’s fine way to find newer ones when I’m out of content from active or hot.
I would say helping perpetrate a genocide slightly outweighs making filing taxes a little easier. It’s a very, “He makes the trains run on time” sentiment.

Seriously, we already left Saudi Arabia get away with chopping up a journalist for a US publication for that reason. And have a base in Iraq. And ostensibly Pakistan is our ally. And Turkey is in NATO. How many allies do we need in that area? And why do they all have to be terrible?

That part is true. It is usually extremely difficult to prove. It’s why the case on whether it’s genocide can take years. And why people saying the ICC hasn’t said its 100% genocide yet aren’t arguing in good faith. They said it’s plausible, which is already huge. Anything more wasn’t realistic, as it will take them most likely literal years to finish the case out, but we can call it as we see it before then.
In this case, it’s still okay for everyone else to say it because we don’t have to prove it legally, and it’s pretty obvious to the eye and ear with the mountain of evidence given by South Africa. Luckily, Israeli government officials and soldiers have said openly many statements basically proving that they want to do a genocide. They’ve called Palestinians animals, compared Gaza to Amalek, said they need to erase the Gaza strip from the earth, said there are no involved civilians, been encouraging another ethnic cleansing through emigration as well (“If there are 100,000 or 200,000 Arabs in Gaza and not 2 million Arabs, the entire discussion on the day after will be totally different.”), etc. Those quotes and statements have always helped me feel more comfortable calling it what it is.
That’s the thing about all these articles on how well the job market is doing, while simultaneously there are tons of articles on layoffs and bankruptcies that they never acknowledge that all - the new jobs always feel like they are in gig and crap work.
