Gaming@beehaw.org•Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of April 27th
4·8 months agoBlue Prince- I’m taking a break after getting to a certain point. It’s been great fun and the underlying message seems very timely. Gran Turismo 7- it’s my “in-between” game and I like to play the weekly challenges. Vampire Survivors- my favorite game on my phone. I was on a break but I’m back to seeing gem explosions when I close my eyes.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you search for flights based on a town you want to go to, not an airport
12·9 months agoLook up the regional airport and see which airlines fly there. If it’s a smaller regional airline, you might need to contact them directly and purchase your ticket through them.

17·9 months agoFuck HP. I could see these assholes charging you a fee to download anything or use their device in any meaningful way. They are leaders in the enshittification race.

Technology@lemmy.world•How Three Alleged Tesla Vandals Got CaughtEnglish
17·10 months agoI take my dog for a walk in my neighborhood and walk by no less than 10 different camera setups, and those are the ones I actually notice. Paranoia has led us down the road to a post-privacy society.
Well, that’s an opinion.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Buyer's remorse is such a strong taboo that it leads people to defend things in their lives which harm them. Can anything be done to start countering this?
1·10 months agoThis is one of the silliest things about video games. There is so much quality content available, but gamers love to complain about the only game they play. They could just play something else, but then they wouldn’t feel morally superior, or something? It’s very silly. I play GT7 frequently and some of the complaints from the community are just ridiculous.
A few years ago I wanted to take some classes at a community college, and one of their requirements is to take an assessment test to see where you’re at with everything. I told myself there’s no way I wanted to take any remedial math classes, so I used Khan Academy to refresh my skills, and I actually learned some new techniques. It’s great!

Technology@lemmy.world•Is it time to ring the alarm on internet door cameras?English
433·11 months agoI’ve noticed that anyone who has gotten one newly installed can’t stop looking at it for every small thing. It’s like built-in paranoia. Not to mention that every time I take a walk in my neighborhood I’m now on bunch of different people’s cameras without even knowing it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Newcomers who joined Lemmy last week, how are you doing?
28·11 months agoI genuinely miss the F1 and CFB communities for the commentary, but I’m glad I left reddit when they killed 3rd party apps. It’s nice to have a media feed that isn’t cluttered with ads.

Technology@lemmy.world•CISA staffers offered deferred resignations, extending broader cybersecurity fearsEnglish
11·11 months agoThere’s quite a few jobs that aren’t union eligible, and trust me when I say I understand how they operate. The first trump admin made it easier to fire federal workers, and believe it or not, there are federal workers that do get fired for doing a bad job. I’m “making an educated guess” that some of those people facing disciplinary actions took the option to resign because I’m telling you what I’m personally seeing.

Technology@lemmy.world•CISA staffers offered deferred resignations, extending broader cybersecurity fearsEnglish
33·11 months agoIm making an educated guess that there’s a decent amount of those 40k employees that were actually facing disciplinary actions or termination and are using it as a way to possibly avoid it.

News@lemmy.world•Thousands of Los Angeles homeowners were dropped by their insurers before the Palisades Fire
8·1 year agoThe problem is that it just makes more financial sense to just not insure the area. The property itself is wildly expensive and then the owners are sure to lawyer up if they don’t get exactly what they want. Makes more sense to just not issue policies.

Technology@lemmy.world•Meta scrambles to delete its own AI accounts after backlash intensifies | CNN BusinessEnglish
7·1 year agoThis has been going on for quite some time, and will just continue in the background. I always had suspicions about all the positive comments on advertisements. This just confirms that they’re faking engagement numbers.
I don’t think all of these parents are in it for the money. I’m sure some of them just want him bankrupted, no matter how long it takes. Who cares if it goes to lawyers, as long as Jones doesn’t get to keep a dime?
