The reason for the correction is that the “smart money” that breathlessly invested billions on the assumption that CUDA is absolutely required for a good AI model is suddenly looking very incorrect.

I had been predicting that AMD would make inroads with their OpenCL but this news is even better. Reportedly, DeepSeek doesn’t even necessarily require the use of either OpenCL or CUDA.

Even if they get banned, any startup could replicate their work if it is truly open source. The best thing about their solution is that it breaks the CUDA monopoly that NVDA has enjoyed. Buy your puts when NVDA bounces because that stock is GOING DOWN. There’s no world where a company that makes GPU’s is worth more than both Apple and Microsoft. It’s inevitable.

Again, everything I have said in this thread is in defense of free speech and anti-genocide. There are no red herrings here. I responded to all comments, matching the tone of the comment (except yours which literally violates the ToS of pretty much all of Lemmy).

Do these types of comments ever get you anywhere? Now that you’ve thoroughly offended me, did you have a point to make? Or was your point just that no one should have free speech and should be punished irreparably and permanently for calling out injustice wherever they see it?

People that insist on keeping politics out of the workplace are the exact same type of people that work for less money than their peers for the military industrial complex, making missiles that turn brown people into hamburger. I find that they also tend to universally hold this grind-culture delusion that rich people are innately better people that earned their wealth and the poor are lazy, stupid scum that deserve to be exterminated and oppressed at every turn.

Perhaps not all do. Many (not most) people in foreign countries still hold on to the hope that they can come to America and “succeed”. A good case in point: many of my Indian tech worker friends in the US and their opinion on the H1-B visa debate. They are overwhelmingly on Elon Musk’s side (in fact, many of them worship him) of that debate despite the fact that Musk uses captive H1-B visa people to run a legal sweatshop in the US. The US loves to perpetuate that opportunity myth as a way to attract scab laborers from poor counties.
