I just had a successful transaction on Craigslist today. Don’t give up the dream!
I’m a systems librarian in an academic library. I moved over the Lemmy after Rexxit 2023. I’ve had an account on sdf.org since 2009 (under a different username), and so I chose this instance out of a sense of nostalgia. I do all sorts of fiber arts (knitting, cross stitch, sewing) and love dogs.

It’s worth noting you’re only allowed to insultingly say someone has a mental illness in relation to their gender or sexual orientation.
Do not post … Insults, including those about: … Mental characteristics, including but not limited to allegations of stupidity, intellectual capacity, and mental illness, and unsupported comparisons between PC groups on the basis of inherent intellectual capacity. We do allow allegations of mental illness or abnormality when based on gender or sexual orientation, given political and religious discourse about transgenderism and homosexuality and common non-serious usage of words like “weird.”

Edit: and the changelog is a hoot.
Update: outfit is now
Thanks, all! Next steps are figuring out a chain belt, or maybe doing something with the bright orange hemp rope I already own.
Would she use one of those little password-keeper books? It’s not as secure as a password manager, but it might help get her self-sufficient.
You could start not knowing how to do things, give slower answers, just give bad customer service. Or ask her if whatever she’s trying to do can wait until she gets home to get computer.
I know the feeling of wanting to help, it’s part of why I became a librarian. I also know the pain of old folks coming in and asking the same questions. I had one lady, really sweet, that would come in and ask for the phone numbers to maybe 3 businesses a day. Like, we’d show her how to look it up, we’d walk her through it on a public terminal, she’d still ask us again the next day. It gets frustrating and you pick your battles.
At least I could go home after a shift and stop being the tech-knower. It doesn’t sound like you get to and that sucks.
Confirmed, Connect supports tagging.
America elected Andrew Jackson and we learned our lesson. /s
Oooh. I’ve not upgraded yet, but that looks exciting.
Shout-out to Beyond Compare! It makes my life as a many-hatted systems librarian much easier.
Whenever a vaccine kicks my butt like that I just tell myself “good job, having a strong immune reaction.” If the vaccine was that bad I imagine the real deal would be much worse, especially without the vaccine.
Also, my dad died of COVID pre-vaccine, so I’m taking the vaccine whenever it’s offered to me.
Kind of, yeah. In this case, there are pre-written character sheets. You’re assigned a character by the GM based on a casting questionnaire.
Some games have dice, some don’t. Some involve hitting each other with foam swords or Nerf weapons, some don’t. It depends on what mechanics the game author wanted.
The game I’m going to play in is called a “theatrical-style larp”, meaning it’s more about portraying characters in a situation than about winning.
Awesome, thanks. Thinking more about my character I think the costuming hint/direction is so that I contrast with the other, more goth, characters in the larp. I’m getting a handle on what direction to go in and a trip to the thrift store is planned for the weekend :)
Not a joke, mostly concerned about allergies, and trying to figure out what to look for when I do make it to the thrift store.
edit: and when I’ve asked for costuming advice in other forums, I’ve gotten “go buy this $200 outfit from __” and I don’t have any interest in that.
Oh! I am also a competent/brave seamster and have access to a sewing machine, 3d-printer, and other tools.
Same boat, after I got a series of very loud “flash flood” alerts going late into the night. Every time the timeframe was extended there was another alert. I did not fancy being woken up at 2 am in my second floor bedroom to a alert telling me to stay off the roads.
Have some brain bleach: a hamster dance clone.
Ditto. SDF feels very nerdy and comfortable.
I sat down with my partner last night, to help him pick out an instance to join. He said he wasn’t unixy enough to feel at home on SDF.
I feel comfortable with his decision to join dbzer0. Folks from dbzer0 seem like good sorts, and somehow none of y’all have pissed me off enough to get added to my block list.
Time Cube (now archived). I feel bit bad saying it, but omg the layout. It was bad even by 90s standards.
Edit: the creator died in 2015.
Edit2: CW, anti-queer rhetoric, but I find it very hard to take it seriously in the midst of waves hands vaguely at the rest of the website
Sometime in 2010. My partner and I got our first pup, work was fine, apartment complex was good. Things were walkable. Pup loved snowpocalypse 2010, we went to the tennis courts and just ran around in the snow.
Obama was promising awesome healthcare reform. I had hope.
My mom hadn’t told me that we were probably the sort of family who should only see each other at funerals. My mom hadn’t yet killed my dad with COVID (she claims she got it at a “mandatory unmasked Christmas work potluck” in December 2020. She retired 2 months later, so it can’t have been that mandatory. She knew he was immunocompetent and also didn’t take him to the hospital as soon as his oxygen dipped below 90%.)
The app openvibe does that for Mastodon and Bluesky. You have to have an account on both, though. I think they’re adding in other services eventually.
