icerunner_origin@startrek.websiteto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you knew the internet was going to be shutdown, damaged, or colossally enshittified what software would you archive for use locally and use for a neighborhood/town mesh network? Why?241·4 months agoI have started to do this and I’m using Docker to host Kiwix. I’m currently using it to provide offline versions of Wikipedia, medical guides and tutorials for various programming languages. My plan is to put essential apps and information on an RPi and provide a broadcast hotspot where anyone can access the info.
I also live on top of a hill, so I’m saving up to put together a solar powered Meshtastic repeater that I can mount to my aerial pole.

icerunner_origin@startrek.websiteto News@lemmy.world•The US right is coming for disabled people50·5 months agoI wish the media would stop portraying it as left vs right. In the UK, the traditionally left-leaning Labour party that is currently in power are also coming after disabled people. It’s not left-right politics, it’s the predatory billionaire class coming after everyone, taking the easiest targets first.

icerunner_origin@startrek.websiteto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What should i get my 10yo nephew that’s all into radical sports and anything physical for xmas?3·9 months agoI don’t know where you live, but if you have a Hado arena nearby, then a taster session might be a good gift. It’s an augmented reality sport which can be played casually or professionally. There are arenas all over the world.
Unfortunately their world site is a little out of date. I know quite a few kids in my area of the UK, at around that age, who are getting into it.

icerunner_origin@startrek.websiteto Gaming@beehaw.org•Publishers are absolutely terrified "preserved video games would be used for recreational purposes," so the US copyright office has struck down a major effort for game preservation30·10 months agoI’d say it’s time to push the argument that the Library of Congress needs to be preserving games as part of the cultural history of the USA. If the legislative branch won’t abide private efforts then it’s time to make the government do it.
Upskill. I’m not ‘upskilling’ someone, I’m training them.

icerunner_origin@startrek.websiteto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Whats a snappy and not too much longer than an hour Soundtrack to listen to?2·10 months agoI’ve consistently enjoyed and come back to the following for years:
- “Make it Sweet” by Milkcan (Um Jammer Lammy soundtrack), 35 mins
- Forgotten Worlds arcade OST by Kawamoto Tamayo, ~45 mins
I also like to boot up and listen to the Amiga title music for SWIV and the Mega Drive/Genesis soundtrack of Revenge of Shinobi.
This was also my first Linux distro after having used Sun’s Solaris while at uni. I think I tried out Slack and Suse at around the same time, but stuck with RedHat and related distros for about 6 years.
I like how Hawkeye has now been relegated to making line calls at international tennis tournaments
