  • Recently bought a DAP (Digital Audio Player) and started downloading to distance myself from Spotify’s increasingly intrusive push of AI-riddled music and podcasts. Large commercial artists are torrented, while smaller bands’ music off of bandcamp and qobuz.

I still have my Spotify account to reference songs that I’ve bookmarked, but since I ended my subscription I no longer use it frequently enough to discover new music as I detest ads. Now I discover new music throughs combination of falling down youtube rabbit holes, and browsing various lemmy communities, /c/[email protected] (I forget how to link communities. I’m also considering checking out last.fm and other music services like that.

    Bands I’ve been enjoying lately:

I’m also looking forward to purchasing the new Paper Kites album when it releases in January. :)

  • I’m using Memmy, Voyager, and Mlem.

I started with Memmy, but then started favoring Voyager, which was said to be the closest to Apollo in functionality and design. Then i noticed that Voyager always omitted comments from a certain instance, so I’d only get one side of the conversation, so I switched to favoring Mlem, which I’m really enjoying at the moment.

Now that I’ve given it a try, I think that I would continue using Mlem even if Voyager fixed that particular issue. It has a really nice level of polish and hasn’t had any issues with crashing, unlike Liftoff or Thunder, which I’ve dropped completely.

  • Haha, any kind of ink works for me, as long as I can draw with it! Also, I’m always looking for art communities on Lemmy, so I just joined!

Currently, I’m doing studies of mechanical joints and greebles to improve my ability to draw hard surface stuff (e.g. mechs, vehicles, inorganic constructs), and I’m also drawing a shitpost meme when I need to take a break from studying! :)

  • Mine is drawing. I’ve had other hobbies and have other things that I enjoy doing, but drawing is the most engaging thing for me. Your standards always outpace your ability, so there’s never a moment when you feel like you’ve accomplished everything you could’ve accomplished. There’s always something new to draw or learn about.
