IMO, the current administration is the biggest threat to democracy in the history of this nation, and right now its PR is being lead by a clown that paints his face orange each morning.

The right wants him replaced just as much as the left – and preferably quickly enough that Vance might get 3 terms. So be careful what you wish for, because right now Trump is actually doing a phenomenal job of fueling outrage over project 2025 agendas. Someone with more intellect will be better able to mask their radical nature.

I see how moving out of the Google ecosystem could be a pain, but moving out of proton probably shouldn’t be that big of a deal?

Switching to another services for calendar, storage, or VPN should be simple. I kind of see how going to another email provider and not wanting to lose old conversations could be a pain though. In fact, that pain is what largely made me try to avoid using email for communicating with people in my life.

Either way, much less of a pain than buying a semi-luxury car only to see it lose basically all of its value because Elon is a nazi.

Many years ago I deleted all posts/comments that were listed under my user profile, but hundreds of them still show up when I use a search engine. I even tried going through all of those search results and deleting the comments directly from where they were posted. Doing that makes it look like the comments are being removed; you can even refresh the page and confirm that you don’t see them anymore, but after some time they always come back. I’ve done multiple cycles of trying to delete these comments and they never actually get removed.

To clarify it doesn’t get disconnected. It just periodically doesn’t recognize that a storage device got plugged in or, alternatively, that there was one plugged in at the time that the laptop was powered on.

But no, I haven’t contacted them about it yet. I need to first check if there’s any dmesg/journalctl events happening that might be worth following up on before contacting support. Primarily because I don’t recall having any issues like that when I had Windows installed so I’m not convinced yet that it is a hardware fault.

11th gen Intel Framework 13 and using Pop_OS. I have many USB related annoyances. For example, when I’m using their USB-A expansion cards that they state support USB 3.2 Gen 2 I am unable to get more than 30MB/s. If I use the same device but through a USB-A to USB-C adapter and a USB-C expansion card I see 500-800MB/s.

I also have some weird issue where USB devices sometimes just don’t show up when plugged in, or if I boot with them plugged in. Re-inserting the device usually fixes it. I was assuming it might have been a hardware problem at first, but it happens on every port regardless of what device it is regardless of if it’s through a USB-A or USB-C card. Not sure what’s going on or how to really go about debugging issues like this.

Every passing day we delve deeper into this hole that is a cold technology driven world. Instead we really should be taking the time to share our outbreaks with friends and family.
