Not entirely sure what you mean; Linux’s user management, access control, security etc has always been ahead of Windows’ for its whole existence.

We’re in the process of moving to Linux in our company, entirely because of how aggressively awful Windows 11 is. We’d have been perfectly happy staying on Windows 10 forever, but last week our head of development woke up to discover that Windows 10 had spontaneously chosen to “upgrade” itself during the night without him agreeing to it.
I’ve heard it said that the difference between Machine Learning and AI, is that if you can explain how the algorithm got its answer it’s ML, and if you can’t then it’s AI.
No. This is a specious argument that relies on an oversimplified description of humanity, and falls apart under the slightest scrutiny.
I don’t have many pictures of myself on my own phone. Most pictures of me are on the phones of the people who took them.
The distressing thing for me is knowing that a lot of my friends (and exes) are exactly the sort of people that’ll just absent-mindedly click OK without reading it and share every single photo they’ve ever taken of me; photos which Facebook’s facial recognition will easily tag.
Schroedinger’s billionaires. They’re propping up the economy with all the tax they pay, but they’ll leave if they have to pay tax.
Whenever I see anything like this I remember my days working for large American companies and how difficult it was, even as a senior engineer, to get spending approval for anything. Like, even a $20 replacement headset I had to keep resubmitting applications for for three weeks because the managers had a policy of rejecting every first request on the theory that if it was important enough to spend company money on, it was important enough to fill in the form twice.
The point being, these sorts of people do not hand out a single penny without running the numbers and realising that the cost of rigging an election multiplied by the probability of success, is still lower than what they’ll financially gain from it going a certain way.
downvoted for that website’s super illegal “pay us to not track you” policy
I suspect the world would be safer if everyone just let Trump think he won.
Yeah for sure. Every Apple device I’ve had has been well built. Every interaction I’ve had with Apple Incorporated as a company has been a dystopian nightmare, and with the walled garden it’s not possible to separate the product from the company. Therefore, it’s a bad product.
those who haven’t watched much
I mean… I think I know what you’re trying to say, but this seems to imply that you think someone who doesn’t like a show should just carry on watching it anyway
Yeah I’m trying to stick to Lemmy, but all the communities I joined when I signed up turned out to be dead. :/
72% is way too low given how insane the current wealth distribution is. Fully 1/4 of the population have drunk the kool-aid
If any other country did the things Israel has done, we’d be sanctioning them at a minimum. We invaded Iraq both times for less.
That is such a weird fucking thing to say on every level.
These people really do just assume that everyone is as awful a human being as they themselves are.
The Top Gear Reliant Robin launch reached 3000ft / 900m, although they were unable to stick the landing.
yeah, I can see not having a social media profile at all being treated as tantamount to sedition before too long
I’m increasingly convinced that while AI in general had a big leap forward a few years ago, since then there’s some mass hysteria type effect where everyone seems convinced that it’s been getting steadily better at the same rate - when I’ve not been able to see any of that.
I keep reading all these benchmarks that are supposedly destroyed every three months, but they never seem to turn into any noticeable improvements when I use the damn things. It’s now at the stage where if someone tries to tell me otherwise I just assume they’re either a bot themselves, or falling for some kind of hysteria/confirmation bias type effect.
So, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if autopilot literally was getting worse as they try forcing more data into it and getting nothing but overfit. It was already as good as it was going to be based on its fundamentals, which is to say, not good enough.
Do you work for Microsoft or something? This reads exactly like their sales FUD playbook
