I think the Internet still has lots of promise. We just did a capitalism on it. If we can get the cancer out it’ll be an amazing thing again.
But I do think some of that early promise was overestimated because mostly smart people were on it then. We thought it was the medium, but it was just techies or people with hobbies or interest that made it that special place, now that your average Joe is there it’s mostly shit, but go somewhere with a little barrier to entry (like Lemmy) and it is pretty cool again.

This is why I left. I saw post about people being banned from communities for things like that, or saying eat the rich, iD’ing Nazis, calling Palestine a genocide and calling for action. It was clear they had fascist corporate donors to appease and had chosen sides.

Cuba is eyeing that straw pretty hard right now.

Total hack job article but corporate media is just billionaire propaganda

I’ve only been off reddit for 6 months or so, but I went back recently, and was amazed at the amount of clickbait type post, like the ones that you see on Facebook from some random account you don’t follow, just obvious engagement farming with no quality, I wondered if it had been like that for a while and I just hadn’t noticed.

If AI is so smart, why don’t we just ask it to fix the power grid crisis?
Netflix had a few really good ones that showed how the cops lied or bungled things.

Oh I guess I’m going to see the new Superman now.

This is straight out of the Curtis Yarvin New Right playbook, degrading national sovereignty and increasing control of your citizens beyond borders based on identity.
