Yeah, the devil is in the details. Is there a cooldown? Are there quantity limitations? Location could be interesting because you could put ten tons of gravel a mile high and drop it. You could have Nasa pay you to quickly assemble a compacted gravel mini-moon at a lagrange point for a space dock.

It does raise the question on if this could be useful in some sort of hand to hand combat situation. What happens if I my fist is 6" away from your face and I teleport 7" forward? I guess the same question applies to walls. If I can just teleport through matter, then it’s usefulness is suddenly quite high.
I would be the Gravel King. You need gravel, you come to me. I would be a benevolent king though. I would grant gravel to those that need it.

When I was 18 and my parents moved away, I only had $30 for food that first month. I was able to get ramen for 10/$1 and it got me through. It took me many years to be able to enjoy ramen after I was able to afford not being forced to eat it.
This kid is straight up hacking time. He better watch out for laser raptors.

Generally speaking, most pieces of land tend to be claimed by a nation with maybe Antarctica as an exception. Alright then I guess I’d need to add a “desperately try to acquire citizenship or get my current boss to pay me under the table” step :)

I also wanted a DAP that didn’t run Android and I ended with the fun and ultra gimmicky Mixxtape (you can use the device itself as a cassette tape). It was only $60-ish, so don’t expect top tier build quality or interface, but I am pretty happy with it.

zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Technology@lemmy.world•The Terminal Demise Of Consumer Electronics Through Subscription ServicesEnglish1·18 days agoYeah, as I said, it is a wacky gimmick, and it does work. My teen kid got a big kick out of it and at the insane price some of the new artists have been charging to get their music in cassette form, it pays for itself in less than three albums if I already had them digitally.
I will say again that it is a $60-ish portable music player, don’t expect $1000 Sony gear build quality or interface. I specifically didn’t want some sort of Franken-Android DAP, which most newer dedicated music players are, so it worked out.
zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Technology@lemmy.world•The Terminal Demise Of Consumer Electronics Through Subscription ServicesEnglish3·19 days agoIt’s not particularly high end, but I fairly recently bought a Mixxtape MP3 player for $60 new and it works well and can play as a cassette. The gimmick is wacky (but does work), but I mostly got it because I had to switch to a phone without a headphone jack and I wanted something small and inexpensive.
zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Technology@lemmy.world•The Terminal Demise Of Consumer Electronics Through Subscription ServicesEnglish2·19 days agoJust throwing it in there that none of my Fiio DACs or amps help up over time, especially with the more portable models. Maybe the build quality is better on their higher end models, but I’m definitely not buying any more of their stuff.
I confirmed this with my own SDR years ago after seeing a presentation about it at DEFCON.
