Summary
Ted Cruz wants to block an FCC program that would allow schools and libraries to lend Wi-Fi hotspots for off-premises use, citing concerns about online safety and potential censorship of conservative viewpoints.
The program, introduced under the Universal Service Fund, aims to help students and patrons lacking internet access.
Cruz argues it exceeds FCC authority and could increase consumer bills.
Proponents, including former FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel, say it operates within the existing budget and addresses the digital divide.
Nearly everything my kids do for school is online now, in Google Classrooms. It has been this way since well before covid shut down the school buildings for almost a full year. If they didn’t have internet access at home, they essentially would not be able to do their schoolwork.
It’s enough of an equity issue that I don’t assign homework.
Get out of here with that equity woke mind virus /s
I actually survey them and assign extra homework to the kids without internet. Finding access helps them learn to bootstrap better.
Such an emotional roller coaster you’ve put me on!
