The death of a New Mexico adult comes eight days after a 6-year-old child succumbed to the disease in Texas last week.

An unvaccinated New Mexico adult who tested positive for measles has died, the second death in a growing measles outbreak centered along the West Texas-New Mexico border, officials said Thursday.

The individual did not seek medical care before death, New Mexico health department officials said. The official cause of death is still under investigation by New Mexico’s Office of the Medical Investigator. However, the state health department scientific laboratory has confirmed the presence of the measles virus in the person, the state health department said.

For those who miss death on the first round, there is always the chance of getting a deadly encephalitis years later after the measles infection!

While these parents made a catastrophic decision, remember that they are the only people in the chain who got consequences. Hang all the blame on their head, and you acquit the people who spread and profit from these lies like Andrew Wakefield, RFJ Jr., and the Social Media companies.

Yep. A responsible “social media” would have absolutely squelched that crazy antivaxxer stuff. There are limits to “free” speech.

Zuckerberg essentially said that society has shifted to wanting its own “alternative facts” and so he’s just going to let them have it. Truly Orwellian. Jon Oliver did a very… sad… segment on it.

I agree on principal. And i agree with you 100% on your sentiment. In fact i got downvoted and fought pretty hard on lemmy to try and hold judgement on the people affected. (And by pretty hard i mean i said something that people slightly objected to. I did nothing really)

I also have, through local interactions, found that the particular community involved are in complete willful ignorance about this subject.

      They dont care.

Seminole isnt far away from me. Local buisinesses here where i am are directly connected. They were traveling there literally this weekend. Ive interacted with the community involved and they say it is a no issue or fake news. Its all coolaid all the way through.

They dont care. Its gods will.

My standards on judgement still hold, but in my experience the evidence at this point is not anything that exonerates any of them in the slightest…

Its all cult mentality. But this time it isnt rfk and trump. Its just hardcore religion and blinders.

Does anyone know what’s up with the guy’s physical health? He literally seems like he could die any second. Between his voice and the swollen red face, he does NOT look healthy.

I feel like someone should create some sort of herbal, homeopathic solution to the Texas Flu. Maybe they could start with checking how the Measles vaccine works. Not that it works or anything…

because they’re solipsists, they functionally do not, cognitively, live in our material reality, and when material reality effects them, they contrive a reason within their own fantasy world for it to have happened that works on, if not fails to contradict, the internal vibes based ‘logics’ of the fantasy. they’re effectively characters in a very very poorly written fantasy novel, and it’s very difficult to give a shit when the writing is so inept.

also they want to murder you, and maybe have the means to do it. also tends to undermine sympathy.

I think it’s a human defense mechanism to stop feeling bad.

You see it’s bad, you know it’s bad, but if the subconscious constantly reminds you of that fact, it would be very overwhelming for the conscious mind.
