        I know! I hadn’t even thought of that until I saw someone’s was like “mee” and now I need to get another account. It’s like how people get caught off guard when I tell them my 20 year old email is just my name with no numbers or special characters.

          Haha it’s great because there’s always another instance where your username will be available.

          Or you can choose to be something different on each instance.

          I just came over from Reddit too. It took me a day to settle in and understand how federation worked but now it makes total sense to me.

      About a month or two ago, lemmy seems to have attracted its first mass spam bot, dming thousands of users with basically a phising email.

      If you get a message from ‘Fediverse Chick’, that’s not her, someone stole her image, just block the user.
