Juveniles under age 15 cannot be tried as adults for any offense, according to New Jersey state law. The teen would face a maximum of 20 years in prison if convicted in family court in Essex County.
“He was going to (be prosecuted by) the state which meant that he would have had a very low sentence if he was found guilty, which I’m sure he would be,” Habba added. “I then requested that we take it on and give him a federal charge and charge him as an adult.”
This type of shit isn’t just immoral, but it should also be illegal. And ultimately, if we ever become a country that cares at all about justice, then this is going to result in his case being thrown out since the charges should be state charges, and the state would not try him as an adult.
When are we going to have enough as a country?
I’ve never understood this. He’s a 14 year old child, he’s not an adult. No matter what he might have done, his alleged crime doesn’t magically add 4 years to his life.
Habba is using this child’s life for her own reputation, I would guess…
This kid, of he killed a police officer, or anyone, has done a horrible thing and needs not only prison but likely also psychological help. Normal kids don’t kill others
With that said, treating this kid, or any kid, like an adult is just… Why? That is the entire point, they are kids, ee acknowledge that they are kids, that they are different bit now we just chose to ignore that because reasons?
If we do this then there is no reason at all to treat any kid different in trials. Let’s give kids the electric chair again, it’s not like the US hasn’t done such horrible things before.
I mean, why looking at the actual causes of this, why try and avoid this happening again by changing the environment of kids like this that are at risk, when you can just toss them in the incinerator and you’re done with the problem?
Fucking disgusting
I guess by “protect the children from being murdered” they meant “protect cops from children?”
