The 83-year-old progressive icon took the stage ahead of indie pop artist Clairo’s performance to deliver a fiery speech, where he raged against President Donald Trump, corporate greed and the billionaire class.

    A couple things:

1). I lowkey expect Coachella to have a pretty good % pretentious rich folk (Trust Fund Babies) who this ain’t gonna resonate with from an old white dude.

2). I kinda would have expected AOC instead of Bernie to maybe connect with the younger folk better? But the article says she’s trying to reach Neil Young fans? Why aren’t these roles reversed?

Spot-on re: 1. When I saw that I thought, “why fucking bother with these people?” Don’t Coachella/Burning Man/SXSW demographics comprise primarily techbros and other guillotine fodder nowadays?

Go, go Bernie! He is old enough to deserve to yell at clouds all day, but he chooses to keep fighting. Do we even deserve politicians this good?

Even more surprising: he took the stage not to speak, but to play bitchin’ dueling guitar solos with Tom Morello for an hour.

i seem to have put myself right in the cross fire between a troll and others, so allow me to defend myself: I have no idea about US politics, and only started to, well, get more informed in it after the most recent election.

I see that there is a Bernie Sanders website linked in the comments, but I was just wanted to hear from you guys why Bernie Sanders is so well regarded.

Could someone be willing to explain why this particular politician deserves to be praised as some kind of hero?

I respect this wholeheartedly, but it was 60 years ago.

Is it truly the guy who can take on the trump empire? I’m yet to be convinced.

Wow. You could just Google him… You’re clearly ignorant here, which is fine, but now you’re casting judgement? This is kind of why we’re in this mess in America… People jump to conclusions before being informed.

Bernie is one of the only people in our federal government that I respect at this stage.

No single person takes on anything. The only reason why it seems that way is because the history books generally point to a particular person as being responsible for some big change in society, but people like that are only able to exist because there’s hundreds of thousands of people who’s names you’ll never know put in the work to make it possible for people like Bernie, or MLK, or whomever to be the face those movements.

        Interesting.

Do you think this time he will be able to achieve anything meaningful? Does he has some kind of plan?

From an outside perspective, it appears to be sanewashing (as he is suggesting political discourse and protests are enough to fight back against the fascistic maga movement when it’s clearly not)

I’m actually in awe of how textbook FUD this is.

Usually people are able to cloak it to make it more difficult to recognize it for what it is. No attempt made here.

He is the only one in Congress taking these positions, therefore he is being supported.

If you’re expecting a single superhero to swoop in and fix all our problems, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. Change of achieved in groups. Take responsibility for your own actions. What have you done to take on MAGA and the oligarchs?
